About

Tanya Harding, MS, LCMHCA

Before founding Tanya Harding Counseling, PLLC, Tanya worked as an intern performing biofeedback, neurofeedback and counseling to at-risk adolescents in a residential treatment center and utilized motivational interviewing and trauma-focused brief solution-focused therapy, CBT and DBT with female and male inpatients struggling with addiction and trauma in a hospital setting. She has gained experience with clients suffering anxiety, depression, OCD and PTSD.

During her internships, Tanya developed a passion for journeying with clients on their path to healing and saw firsthand the dramatic improvements biofeedback and neurofeedback offered. Using bilateral tapping in session, with inpatient and outpatient clients also proved incredibly important at helping calm the clients’ nervous systems' when talking about sensitive topics. She is currently trained and certified in Heart Math a form of biofeedback.

Through further investigation into the mind-body connection, Tanya became intrigued with the evidence-based practice of EMDR. Using an 8 Phase approach and protocols based on the unique situation and symptoms of the client is key in helping liberate a client from the historical happenings into a healthy present.

Tanya has additional training in I-CBT, a newer evidence-based approach to addressing OCD. She has incorporated sand tray, somatic experiencing, mindfulness, art, EMDR, IFS and parts work as well as existentialism in her individual psychotherapy. As a former Tai Chi instructor, she has also incorporated this modality.

She is a telehealth LCMHCA offering psychotherapy services throughout North Carolina.

My Philosophy

Counseling is a journey (not a sprint) of discovery and healing. Clients are experts in their own lives, and the counselor is a facilitator to self-exploration and increasing self-awareness, in relationship to others, as well as individually. The individual functions in relation to self and can often become stuck in an overactive nervous system which tells them they are in danger. Counseling facilitates rewiring of the nervous system so that the client can finally take a breath, and just be. Understanding of their inner and outer experiences in relation to self and others leads to healing and catharsis to improve each client’s capacity for change.

Journeying to discover one’s true identity, and engaging activities geared at calming the nervous system, I work together with the client to peel back the layers of the onion, uncovering client’s suffering and route of healing. Through this path of calming the nervous system and exploration of the inner and outer experiences, the clients increase self-awareness, esteem, self-love, and work to heal guilt and shame, anxiety and depression and lead a much more regulated and peaceful experience in relation to self and others.

Just as one experiences growing pains of the physical body, mental growth requires clients to step outside of comfort and embrace challenging previously held beliefs of the self as unlovable, and the world as an unsafe place.

Just as a butterfly emerges from the chrysalis, the client through healing in the counseling process can spread their wings and soar to greater heights in a state of beauty and peace. I am excited to meet you where you are and walk with you to wherever you need and want to go.

Courage is the most important of all the virtues because without courage, you can’t practice any other virtue consistently
